Types of Membership

Proprietary Membership

Electricity

Proprietary Member is a grid connected entity who can trade for its own account, and clear the same Contracts as a Clearing Member.

A Proprietary Member shall also be entitled to undertake transactions on the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts).

Eligibility Criteria Entities that fall within one of the following categories are eligible to apply for proprietary membership

  1. Inter-State Generating Stations (ISGSs)
  2. Distribution Licensees
  3. State Generating Stations
  4. IPPs
  5. CPPs & IPPs with consent from SLDC.
  6. Open Access Consumers with consent from SLDC

Networth The minimum networth requirement for the purpose of membership is 150 Lakhs.

REC

Proprietary Member means an entity who can trade RECs on its own behalf and clear the same Contracts as Clearing Member.

A Proprietary Member shall be entitled to undertake transactions in Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts).

Eligibility Criteria Entities that fall within one of the following categories are eligible to apply for membership

  1. Inter-State Generating Stations (ISGSs)
  2. Distribution Licensees
  3. State Generating Stations
  4. IPPs
  5. CPPs & IPPs with consent from SLDC.
  6. Open Access Consumers with consent from SLDC.

Networth There is no minimum networth requirement for such members.

ESCerts

Proprietary Member means an entity who can trade ESCerts on its own behalf and clear the same Contracts as Clearing Member.

A Proprietary member shall be entitled to undertake transactions only in the Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts).

Eligibility Criteria Entities that fall within one of the following categories are eligible to apply for membership

  1. Designated Consumer
  2. Entity having ownership of one or many Designated Consumers

 

Networth There is no minimum networth requirement for such members.

Trader Membership

Electricity

An entity who has been granted licence for trading in electricity under Trading Licence Regulations, 2020 and admitted as a member of the Power Exchange shall be called a Trader Member. Trader Member shall trade and clear on its own account or trade and clear on behalf of its client. Provided that a Trader Member or any of its Associates shall not be a Facilitator Member.

A Trader Member shall also be entitled to undertake transactions on the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts).

Networth The minimum networth requirement for the purpose of membership is 150 Lakhs.

REC

Facilitator Membership

Electricity

Facilitator Member is an entity who is neither a grid connected entity nor holding a valid and subsisting Interstate Trading License. The Facilitator Member shall not be entitled to trade for itself but shall have the right to act for and/on behalf of its clients and cannot clear contracts on the Exchange for such clients.

Facilitator Member can have clients which can be categorized as:

  • Grid-connected Client: A Client who is eligible to buy or sell electricity and is connected to the grid. The entities include but are not limited to Distribution Licensees, Generators and Open Access users.
  • Trader Client: A Client who is eligible to trade in electricity under the Electricity Act, 2003 and has a legally valid power purchase/sale agreement, which gives the Client the right to purchase and sell electricity. The entities such as trading licensees can become Trader Clients. All Clients shall have a grid-connected entity for affecting the delivery of the electricity as cleared and settled by the Exchange.

 

A Facilitator Member shall also be entitled to undertake transactions on the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts).

REC

Facilitator Member is an entity who shall not be entitled to trade for itself but shall have the right to act for and/on behalf of its clients and cannot clear contracts on the Exchange for such Clients.

Networth The minimum networth required for such members is Rs 50 Lakh.

Note:

a) All charges unless specified are in Rs. Lacs.

b) Fees mentioned above are exclusive of applicable taxes.

c) ESCerts subscription fees for exclusive Member Client are valid for the respective PAT Cycle and its  associated compliance period.

Terms and Conditions

  • In Proprietary Membership category(Electricity/REC), Member can trade for its own account only and annual client subscription fee will not be charged for first portfolio registered.
  • Exclusive REC/ESCerts Membership can be upgraded to Electricity/REC Membership by paying the differential amount.
  • Existing Members and clients active in Electricity or REC segment at the time of registration in ESCerts segment are eligible to trade in ESCert market at no extra cost for complete PAT Cycle.
  • Admission fees and Annual Subscription fees are non- refundable.
  • Annual Subscription fees (Member and client) is payable in full amount by the member for twelve months whenever its earlier fees get fully utilized and the fees payable will be valid for succeeding 12 months.
  • Security Deposit is refundable on surrender of the Membership and only after completion of 3 years as a member.
  • Membership is transferable only after completion of 3 years.
  • The main objects of the company, who wish to trade on behalf of clients, should include the business of Power/REC/ESCerts Trading.
  • Minimum Net Worth criteria is not applicable in case Government Dept or State Electricity Board (SEB’s) apply for IEX membership.
  • Exchange reserves the right to charge a fee & deposit within the above specified structure.
